Top five tips for new bloggers - what are my top 5 tips?
Hmmm... blogging tips eh? Well being a first time blogger myself, this is what I would tell myself!
1. Choosing your blogging system!
Blogging is pretty much like writing in a diary or journal, so to choose a good blogging system is like choosing a nice notebook or something - the basis of where you will be placing your entries. Seeing as blogging is what the cool kids are doing these days, there are so many sites/tools to choose from. It's best to make sure you get one that works best for you.
2. Templates!
If blogging systems are the notebooks of blogging, templates are the pages. Most blogging sites have a variety to choose from. It's best to choose one that suits your personality or the persona you want to present to your readers. It's also good to choose one that relates to what you will be writing about. It kind of sets the mood for the reader. Or if you're anything like me, just choose the one with the pretty colours. Hehe. But then again, that just shows what kind of person I am and that's the fun bit!
3. Planning your entries!
It's good to give your entries a bit of thought! While it's great to jump right in and type to your heart's content, thinking about what you will be writing and how you will structure it will make it flow so much better. It's all about flow! If you're anything like me, going off on tangents is a frequent thing, so planning will create some coherency and make life for your reader (maybe even your future self) a much more pleasant experience :)
4. Fonts!
The good thing about having your diary/journal online is that you don't have to worry about how your handwriting looks because it's all typed. (My writing gets a little horrendous because I write too fast!) This is another fun bit about blogging because you get to choose what fonts you use. This brings me back to my theory on templates, which was about choosing something that represents yourself. I generally just choose something that is simple to read, I'm just practical :) This includes choice of colours! It's also important to make sure the font colours match your background and are easy on the reader's eyes. Nothing worse than a font colour blending into its background colour :S
5. User Profile!
I think this part is a lot of fun! Depends how much you like to share with people though. It's great to add some detail to your blog profile and give your readers a further insight to its author - you!! Just a little background on yourself goes a long way for the reader and maybe a photo because having a face to a name is always great :)
There's my wonderful blogging tips! Trial and error is always fun to find out what is best...ask others for advice and tips if needed, but I believe it's best to get right into it and make it your own! :D
